Project Description
Early Learning Centre, Auckland
This unique site provided the setting for this project perfectly.
Clients brief was open to interpretation, the only definites being the number of children. Our concept for this building references the site local heritage, crucial to the ‘spirit of the place’ and weaves them into a simple elegant form.
Colour has been overlaid on the posts, each one being a separate shade completing the full spectrum around the oval, also symbolising the ethnic diversity and harmony of the area – a fitting finish in a place for children. The oval form and its outer posts recall the distinctive form of a Maori pallisaded Pa, a typical Maori settlement, whilst the many posts also remind us of the many trunks of a rich Kauri forest.
