Project Description

Fiona Larsen Dermatology, Northcote

The vision for a new medical centre, presented an opportunity to re-examine a space from the patient’s experience.

Designed to look contemporary and inviting the functional layout and programming of internal spaces, facilitates easy navigation and privacy between the individual consultation rooms and waiting area.

Conditioning patients to feel comfortable and naturally welcomed into the centre the simplistic architectural form is balanced with a neutral material palette. The application of pale timber softens the mood within the interior and creates a soothing atmosphere, while the external horizontal timber cladding sets a clean and warm tone upon entry.

Internally, the bespoke design consists of sizeable rooms, each designed to enable a functional and safe environment for both the patient and staff. Custom designed cabinetry has been implemented throughout the design to ensure that every space is well-considered and woven together cohesively.

Orientated to receive natural daylight, the centre incorporates extensive openable sliding doors and windows to maintain passive heating and cooling throughout the building. The external timber cladding, functions as a rain-screen with subtle variations to allow for easy drainage.
