Project Description
Peacocks Early Learning Centre, St Lukes
The client’s vision for Peacocks Early Learning Centre in St Lukes, an 80 child centre, was to be inherently natural, with a Reggio inspired feel.
The concept was brought out in the building by using plentiful natural light from the large glass sliding doors. These doors also serve to connect indoors and out, complimented by the use of natural materials in the building and in the playground.
Feature items such as the handmade Hundterwasser tiles, ensure an earthy feel to the inside, whilst the extensive planting and twisting pathways outside promote exploration of nature outdoors.
The building itself is a simple understated design, presenting the interior Reggio inspired furniture and resources like an interactive museum for children – an exploratorium. The playground design extends this into the outdoors giving a seamless finish.
Phil provided both the building and playground design for Peacocks Early Learning St Lukes, working with client’s builders and Natural Habitats to complete the project.
