Project Description

Private Home, West Hampstead, London

A three storey Edwardian property with a partial basement in the West Hampstead conservation area was extensively rebuilt and extended to provide a new contemporary home behind a retained façade. Internally, the house included eight bedrooms and six bathrooms; and in the newly constructed basement, a cinema, fitness room, play room and plant room were ticked away. Using lightwells, two guest bedrooms were created also.

A new centrally located top lit stair with new windows on half landings brings daylight into the heart of the home. In the entrance hall the open rise treads are cantilevered from a spine wall with a full height glass screen as a balustrade.

A 50m² family room with 3.3m tall double glazed bi-fold doors in a new rear extension overlooks the landscaped garden, which in turn cascades down into the basement, opening the children’s playroom and spare bedroom to the garden via full height sliding doors.

The family room connects to the kitchen via the dining room, which is encased by full height pocket doors, enabling the kitchen, dining room and family room to flow through to the garden, or be closed off for privacy.

The kitchen is finished in high gloss white lacquer with a quartz worktop.

The high specification includes a fully integrated A/V and security system, bespoke joinery units, underfloor heating throughout, hardwood engineered floors and high quality large format tiles to all wet areas.

The original design architects were Bubble Architects. CASA worked with Harris Calnan Design and Build to complete the detailed design of the building and deliver the final home
