Project Description
York Guildhall, York
SEC JV presented “YORKREATIVE – Rethinking the York Guildhall” to members of the York City Council and advisers.
YORKREATIVE is a vision for a new Centre for Creative Businesses and Communities connecting York’s historical urban fabric to the Ouse River. As the City of York Council consolidates its operations by moving to new offices, there is an opportunity to open up a hidden part of the River Ouse to the public. These new urban spaces will be organised around YORKREATIVE – a Centre for Creative Businesses and Communities which, emblematically located within the historic surroundings of York’s centre of governance, will be dedicated to assisting and promoting future creative hi-tech start-ups in the city, while sharing and publicising their work with the community.
Councillor Julie Gunnell, Cabinet member for Corporate Services, City of York Council, said: ’The Guildhall and associated spaces are a significant part of York’s cultural and civic history and during the shortlisting process one of the most important points we looked out for in the architects’ designs was that their proposal will continue to play a key role in the city’s future.’
The York Guildhall judging panel, chaired by Keith Williams, selected a shortlist of five design submissions, which were publicly exhibited at York Explore Library.
